Friday Night Dinner is a British television sitcom written by Robert Popper and starring Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap. The comedy is focused on the regular dinner experience of a British Jewish family (the Goodmans) on each Friday night. The first series originally aired from 25 February 2011 on Channel 4. Series 4, which comprises six episodes, aired from 22 July 2016. A fifth series was commissioned on 23 August 2017 to air sometime in 2018.

The first series premiered on 25 February 2011 and ran for 6 episodes which aired on Fridays.
Series 2 (2012)
A second six-episode series began airing in the UK on 7 October 2012. The episodes aired on Sundays. A Christmas Special aired on Christmas Eve 2012.

Series 3 (2014)
In May 2013 Tom Rosenthal confirmed that a third series was to be filmed in September 2013. The filming finished in November 2013 and on 2 June 2014 it was confirmed that the series will air from 20 June 2014.
Series 4 (2016)
In November 2014, Robert Popper confirmed via Twitter that there would be no 2014 Christmas special of Friday Night Dinner.
On 17 April 2015, Channel 4 confirmed that Friday Night Dinner would be returning for a fourth series due to air in mid-late 2016. Tom Rosenthal stated on Twitter that the new series would probably be filming in early 2016.
The fourth series began airing on 22 July 2016.

A fifth series was commissioned on 23 August 2017 to air sometime in 2018.
Channel 4 has confirmed that Friday Night Dinner will return, with Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal and Mark Heap all signed up to return for the next series.
The new six part series will be filmed and broadcast in 2018.
In Series 5 Mum and Dad get a hot tub, much to the horror of Adam and Jonny, Adam accidentally sets his car on fire, Jonny won't stop prank-calling Adam, Dad becomes obsessed with his old, terrifying ventriloquist dummy, Mum organises her own, terrible surprise party, Jim goes on a date from beyond hell, Horrible Grandma comes back for more horribleness - and the family have dinner.
American remake
In September 2011, Deadline Hollywood announced that Greg Daniels, who had adapted The Office for American television, would spearhead an American remake of the series for the broadcast network NBC. The remake was picked up for a pilot, written by Daniels and directed by Ken Kwapis and starring Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub as the mother and father. The pilot did not go to series.
